Now that we are many months into the pandemic, many of us have adopted the new normal we find ourselves in. This involves figuring out how to get exercise and see friends and family while still being safe through social distancing and wearing a mask. In addition to keeping yourself healthy, it is important to take some much-needed precautions to also keep your hearing aids safe from harm.
Below are some of our best tips for keeping your hearing aids safe while going out.
Don’t Leave Them in the Car
Never leave your hearing aids in the car. On a hot 95-degree Fahrenheit day, your car can reach an average of 116 degrees.
Always Bring Your Storage Case
If you are going somewhere that would require you to take off your hearing aids, such as the beach, bringing your storage case with you is a good habit to get into. This ensures you have a designated place to put your aids, which will offer protection and keep them from getting lost.
Clean Your Hearing Aids
When you are out and about, your ears can collect sweat, which will find its way to your hearing aids. Make sure to wipe down your hearing aids at the end of the day, as excess moisture can damage the devices.
Invest in a Dehumidifier
After a long day out in the sun, your hearing aids need to be properly dried. While leaving them out overnight may usually work, after they are exposed to excess sweat and moisture, they need some extra help, which is where a dehumidifier comes in. Simply place your hearing aids inside before going to sleep and when you take them out in the morning, they will be free of moisture and ready for a new day.
Get Them Professionally Cleaned
Visiting our office to have your hearing aids professionally cleaned can help extend their life. While wiping them down and placing them in a dehumidifier will help in the short term, professional cleanings are necessary for long-term success.
